After starting birth control pills I noticed I became irritable, had anxiety, sleeplessness and fatigue so I would like to know what birth control pill I should be taking to eliminate this side effect. I was on lo loestrin .

I’ve tried 4 different pills, they’ve all made me depressed... not worth the depression. I now rely on condoms & a spermicide. An IUD is out of the question because the one that contains progesterone only my doc feels will give me the same issues, and my periods are already too heavy for the copper IUD. Unfortunately it’s pretty common. :(
Unfortunately it's a risk you take with any artificial hormones. It depends on your body's own hormonal balance to start with, before you start adding an artificial hormone into it.
I chart my fertility as contraception, for similar reasons. Avoids any chemicals.
If you want artificial hormonal birth control & have had a bad time with combination birth control, then try progestrogen only ones, instead, like the mini pill/POP/progestrogen only pill. If you're ok with that & the risks that come with artificial hormones, then it should give you an idea as to whether you'd be ok with something like the implant or injection, which is also progestrogen only, if you find the 3 hr window for taking the mini pill too tight.
You may well find that a hormonal imbalance with your natural hormones is the cause of your depression to start with. I spent years on antidepressants, only to find the cause was hormonal.
How were you able to know it was hormonal? I keep being told my hormones are ok... they only check them at my yearly visit...
They won’t even check my hormones because I’m “young” and my periods are normal. I have terrible PMS though.
I just saw my doc yesterday, AND she said my last chance at birth control pills are the lo loestrin fe that you had problems with. :/ This will be my 5th & last attempt...
Doc didn’t check my hormones either! I have heard it has to be done during different times of the month, 1 doc checked them years ago & because I’m young they were “normal”...
I really feel for you all. I've been there & it's horrible. I didn't find out until I was in my 30s, & I had to go down the natural health route. As Crazygirl says, the marker for what's normal & what's not, is not sensitive enough with normal doctors.
I don't use hormonal birth control now, as I'm too worried about upsetting the new-found balance I've got. It took me until I was in my 30s to have regular periods.
It's important to say that there are lots of causes of depression, so it may not be hormonal. When you have a lot of period related symptoms, though, it's worth investigating.
Crazygirl66 I'll pm you the full story if you want x
& when you've exhausted other avenues, it's worth seeing if it could be hormonal.
Feel free to tell me your story! Zoloft has helped a bit, but I’ve also tried many, many antidepressants. :/. Even when I’m not on the pill, which has been over a year my moods aren’t great!
