Hey Jess, If you have a UTI and you doctor runs a test for it, it will have white blood cells in i, that signifies an infection. The orange color won't matter. Hope you feel better soon.-K
Yes, this is true, but not all Drs have a microscope and ability to do a wet mount slide in their office. Many rely on a dip stick test that changes colors with the presence of red blood cells, white blood cells, protein and such to indicate infection. It is much cheaper and much faster to use a quick dipstick test in the office. If they have a scope or they send it to the lab then no, the color wont matter, but it WILL interfere with a dipstick test because it makes the color changes unclear. They CAN go ahead and treat for infection with a broad spectrum antibiotic until the lab confirms the infection and does a sensitivity test to confirm the antibiotic coverage.
A standard dip test will be altered by the orange coloring in your urine from AZO Standard but they can send the urine to a lab for analysis. Dip tests are easier, quicker and less expensive so if you can stand to go without your AZO Standard for 24 hours before the test you can have the dip test done.
It's usually pretty easy to tell if you have a UTI because it's painfull. There's a burning or pain sensation before or during urination. Sometimes your urethra opening will hurt without urinating. Dark urine is a sign of a UTI but it's also a sign of dehydration. Orange urine happens when you take B vitamins as well. The best way to treat a UTI is to drink tons of water and juice with antioxidants like blueberry, polmagranite, and cranberry. Cranberry juice is actually a good way to prevent UTI and is good for your urinary tract health. Some people are more susceptible to UTIs than others. If your female make sure your super clean ( down there) if not that can cause a UTI too. Basically drink as much water as you can and try too stay a way from things that dehydrate you salt, coffee, or alcohol.
