Hi my name's Ivy, 24 years old about to turn 25 in a week. I've been taking ativan as needed since March 2017 so almost 5 years ago. I've been taking 1mg and sometimes 2 when I go to the hospital for panic attacks. It only works sometimes then it stops. For the past few days I've been having anxiety and panic attacks and I take up to 2 1/2 pills, sometimes 3 and it STILL don't kick in!!! I usually feel insanely calm, relaxed, at peace, happier, less paranoid but for the past few days I still feel the same even at higher dosages and sometimes I get so frustrated because my medicine isn't kicking in that I feel like swallowing the whole bottle. Anyway which mg can I switch to? Should I change to a different benzo? Valium doesnt work at all. Please help me thx
Why does Ativan not work for me that much anymore?

Hi, Cotton!
It's not at all uncommon for this to happen... that you need more and more of the drug for it to be effective. You need to get with your doctor and look at your options including a tapering dose schedule if you need to stop the Ativan. Maybe discuss a safer medication. Don't self-medicate with this drug or any benzodiazepine... take it as directed or get some professional help.
Sorry to be abrupt but your situation could easily become dangerous.
Ask your doctor to switch you over to another benzo such as Valium or Xanax.
