My wife is on Entyvio, she is having other symptoms that could be MS. We are thinking of stopping Entyvio to see if the other symptoms stop. Her GI Dr is of no help on this matter, he says do what you think is best. So we just want to know if she can just stop it. Thank You.
Does anyone know if you have to be weaned off of Entyvio? Or can you just stop it?

Hi, I have been taking entyvio for 2.3 years. Thankfully it helped. Saw great results from colonoscopy before and after. I hope your doctor did that with your wife as well? I had a Dr. for 30 years who would treat me the same as yours and it's completely dishonorable!! I live on Long Island and my new doc is from
One, if not the best, hospital for Crohn's disease in the country: Mt. Sinai in NYC. If there is any way you could get to a better doctor I highly recommend you do so. My former doc that i thought was good, Really messed me up for the past 30 years, leaving me with no quality of life for 4 years before I found new doc from Mount Sinai Hospital. To answer your direct question: yes, my Dr. told me we could stop it at any time if I thought it wasn't working for me. I'm just not 100% positive so I would recommend calling Entyvio drug company directly. I have called them before with questions and they were helpful. Other wise do some research online, asking your specific question and see what results show up. Yet I do recall my doc saying if you don't like it at any time, you can just stop Taking it. So I'm 95% sure that you can. Just be aware that her Crohn's symptoms unfortunately might/will
Most likely come back. Obviously depends on her health status while she's been on the drug, and how bad symptoms were before she started it. Best wishes to you both. It's a tough journey, this Crohn's disease, yet every patient is unique and different with the severity and complications! If you care to share side effects, I would be happy to help. been through a lot, having crohns most of my life and it's always good to brainstorm with others in the same boat. Hopefully this helps you. Best wishes to you both. Try to always find the little things in life that you are grateful for, to help you both find some peace and happiness while living with this disease!!
Take good care,
Your fellow Crohn's friend
I am currently on Entyvio, and I'm pretty certain you can just stop. I was supposed to have an infusion on the 19th of September, but it has been put on hold for no one is sure how long due to a surgery I had to have a couple weeks ago. My GI and the colon/rectal surgeon have both said that I can continue the Entyvio once I have healed up enough. There was and hasn't ever been any concern about whether or not I weaned off of it for this "break" from it.
I have also been on Remicade in the past. I know this is an entirely different biologic, but I also did not have to wean off of this at all either. Nor did I need to wean off of Cimzia, which is what I was on just prior to Entyvio. I just went straight from Cimzia to Entyvio. I hope this helps. And I hope you can someday find a more helpful gastroenterologist!!
Hi, I just read your response to a Crohn's/ entyvio question and I thought I should share something with you. I had two surgeries this summer, one was major surgery and all doctors said all my blood work and health is maintained right now and all said no problem to have surgery while on entyvio. All Crohn's patients are unique, and obviously I don't know your health issues right now nor what surgery you plan to have. However, I had both surgeries with no problem, all while continuing Entyvio throughout all surgery and healing fine. I'm just concerned because going into a surgery causes stress and that can always spark up a flare of Crohn's. I personally believe that having surgery while being in a flare might be much more dangerous?? Just sharing my surgery/Entyvio journey! Thought it might help
Hello and thank you for your comment and concern. As I said in my original post, I am taking a break from the Entyvio due to having a very stubborn and end-of-the-line stricture removed two weeks ago now. And I won't continue it until I am good and healed, and when my GI doctor thinks it is good to start up again. I've just listened to my doctors, and it sounds like just the advice you suggested, so again, thank you! :-)
