I don't think it's licensed in the US, but europe it is.
They say it's in a class with effexor an cymbalta in terms of efficacy.
But there's no reviews available on this site about it.
Anyone ever try it?
How did you find it worked out for you?

Hi, I’m in Australia and have been taking Valdoxan 50mg for about 5 or so years, maybe longer now. I was put on it to add to my Pristiq 200mg for Major Depressive Disorder with Anxiety, and it helps a lot with the depression and also helps me sleep sometimes…. I still find it difficult overall to get to sleep and stay asleep - it’s actually 5am in the morning as I’m writing this and I haven’t been to sleep yet, if you see what I mean.
As for liver problems, I have liver function tests done regularly through my GP and take a herbal Liver Tonic Capsule (the highest strength I can find) twice a day, and that makes a huge difference, I also drink about 3 & 1/2 litres of water a day to flush my body out.
So I hope my experience helps.
We have to pay full price for it in Australia, but there is now a generic version that I can get for about $49AUD for 2 weeks worth. Of course if you’re only taking 25mg day, it would cost $49AUD month.
Hi, John! Valdoxan was never licensed in the U.S. and has been withdrawn from market in many European countries.
*The rights to market Agomelatine in the US were sold by Servier to Novartis in 2006 but the development phase was halted in 2011 when clinical trials suggested weak efficacy and an increase in the risk of severe/fatal liver damage if taken over longer periods*.
Wow - the pharmacist told me it was quite popular here in England.
But I have read some reviews on other websites and people did seem to find it weak in some cases.
Have you got a link to that quote?
John, for some reasons we can't post links on this site. Try Googling *valdoxan usa* and look for the article from HealthCentral/depression and agomelatine.
At any rate, the articles that I've read seem to indicate that there are benefits (I.e. low incidence of side effects) although it's efficacy is questionable. Still, being safe enough it would be worth a try, right?
It certainly is available in the UK. I've been prescribed it due to not tolerating other antidepressants, but I'm concerned to find reports that it has caused anxiety increase and movement disorders, despite those being rare side effects. I'll have to have regular liver function tests whilst on it, but that happens for some of the other psychiatric meds too.
