Dear Wildnfree and other readers to this site,
I've had serious cognitive impairments like the ones Wildnfree describes for three years, and still have them. I am interested in hearing any personal accounts in detail about people's experiences with trazodone and its negative cognitive effects. Likewise I can share my experiences in this time, my hospital scans, the different medications I took to combat the cognitive effects and what worked and what didn't. I'm trying to find others in my situation and form a mutual support group of people in the same situation with an aim to finding solutions. As you can imagine I'm getting quite desperate now.
If anyone would prefer to get in contact away from this site my email is vivify38 at terravivi then a dot then net. Anyone interested in this subject may contact me. I hope it turned out okay for you.
I cant take this med because of the side effects like dizziness, trouble concentrating... remember that meds affect people differently. I was never able to get used to it. Now i take ambien for sleep and xanax twice a day for anxiety. Im not on any antidepressants right now. Ive taken many different ones. What has worked the best for me is lexapro. Definitely check with pharmacist for drug interactions.
I have been on Trazodone for a couple of months to help me sleep. My asthma has gotten worse since starting this drug with chest spasms, shortness of breath, and severe cough. My asthma has not responded well with my asthma meds. I heard a commercial last night with similar side effect which got me thinking that this could be related to the Trazodone and searches have agreed. Have message sent to doctor to change. The concentration and memory loss is hard to judge since I have suffered from this most of my life.
I've been off Trazodone for 5 1/2 weeks and I can feel some serious cognitive impairments. Thank God for spell check otherwise I'd be lost. I am having a very hard time remembering any new information which is a problem as I just started a new job 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping this is just part of the process and I will heal from it eventually.

I have breathing problems with trazadone. I thought my memory and balance was due to weight or the many surgeries I have had now I am thinking twice about my issues.
I do have memory problems and problems getting my words out. My asthma has gotten worst. The Dr. said it could be the Topamax though that I also am on. I don't want to change cause I do think that I get benefits from being on them both.
I have also had problems breathing and wake up really congested. Has anyone else
experienced this? on't know if it is the CPap but it is also getting worse.
I've been taking the smallest dose for back pain that keeps me awake, sometimes.I stopped taking it because of the memory problems.I have a very good memory, but this drug left me feeling confused.Try and put a sentence together was a joke.I was forgetting why I walked into a room, and had severe problems with recall.Scared the hell out of me.I was also very sluggish for most of the day which was odd because I'm a runner.I would never take this drug, again.
I take Trazodone for sleep but now I have breathing problems could this medicine cause this ? If anybody knows about this medication, I wish you would please.
I have been taking Trazodone for 20 years and I do believe it affects my memory. I just started taking Melatonin and slept fine last night. I will try that from now now. i am having trouble concentrating, I am tired and sluggish all the time, I have problems focusing and I am worn out. i also have Sleep Apnea, but it is being treated with a CPap. I am also going in for more testing on my Thyroid and Adrenals to see if they are making the problem worse. I also have Fibro but get regular care and exercise daily, but my short term memory is still affected... I believe both Trazodone is affecting me to a large extent.

For me, I Found it toxic. I have detoxed from it and don't bump into things anymore. There are things you can take like melatonim but it all depends why it's taken and in my case, I'm happy to be free from it! :)
I started taking this medication 2 months ago. I have a very hard time concentrating and I forget a lot of things. This is the exact reason I came to this website wondering if this was a side affect. I was able to maintain an A average for the past 2 years in college. Now I am struggling to keep B's. What should I do? I will never sleep if I am not on something. I have severe anxiety and sleep is impossible without aids.
I am not any benzo's or narcotics... these side effects have affected me only since I have been on this medication...
Have you tried more natural sleep supplements, such as melatonin? If you are a college student, I'm assuming you're young. Drugs shouldn't rob you of any of your precious youth. Trazodone is commonly prescribed for older people; my 98-year-old mother takes 50mg at night. I am worried for you. Go to your doctor and insist on getting information about melatonin.
The highest mg is 300mg that is md recommend. My sister was on it for years and I tried it a couple times. It made me so out of it in the morning that I could barely wake up in the morning.
i have taken trazodone for years, except for the asthma, i have all of your symptoms. doesn't mean they are caused by the med. full disclosure, i take other meds that may be causing the symptoms... prozac... klonopin... wellbutrin xl and of course, trazodone.
are you taking it for sleep and at what dosage? are you taking other meds also? you know you don't have to answer any of these questions.
sounds like it could be benzo symptoms, especially since you added the trazodone . i continue taking it because it's the only thing that works for sleep that isn't toxic or causes depression.
Hi Wildnfree,
I take this but have none of those side effects. Sounds like your dose is high. Call the pharmacist maybe your having side effects with something else your taking.
Hello WildnFree. Cognitive and motor functions being impaired are considered to be common as side effects. Depending on the dose, if possible, a adjustment (lowered) will often help to ease the symptoms. Your doctor can confirm or give her/his opinion. Regards pledge
