I completed my 12 week treatment just 3 days ago. But still have that insomnia and fatigue. I figure that the insomnia is adding to the fatigue and also really don't expect them to go away in just 3 days. But would be nice to know if there is a predicted time when the side effects should wear off after you stop taking the Harvoni ?
Harvoni - How long do the side effects take to wear off?

I don't want to sound like an ass but, the good news is that it is mostly in your head. I was foggy for 12 weeks. It goes away as fast as you want it to. A few days to a week is the drug leaving your body, the rest is mostly on you. Congratulations to you!
In addition to Balbanes reply a good probiotic will help alot. It certainly worked for me. The medications really mess with your gut (2nd brain) balance. Your gut and brain are connected. Stay away from chocolate too. It has caffeine and ot
her chemicals that mess with your sleep.
I was on Harvoni for the full 12 weeks, and only seemed to experience exhaustion. That lasted a good 3 months after, and have been cleared of Hep C since May of 2011. I made sure during and after, to keep the fluid intake-and the eating issues steady. It did affect my appetite (now that I think about it), and I had to force myself to eat regularly. The side effects are worth the wait, and if I were really to look back-it might have been nearly 6 months until I felt totally myself again. Very thankful here.
I guess it depends on how severe your liver was. I did not drink for over 10 so my liver had very little damage done. Today is my last pill of Harvoni
I felt foggy for a couple of weeks. My PA was telling me that it should only be a few days. Congrats!
It has been 1 year for me since I took Harvoni. I experienced similar side effects and after I finished the side effects lingered so I upped my dose of good quality fish oil to 2 ,2x a days for a while and started taking a high quality pro biotic and it made it all go away. I also take glucosamine and chondroitin and I feel great and sleep well. When I have insomnia now it is usually because I have forgotten my sublingal b12 which helps the body to produce melatonin. I also take melatonin 3mgs. and magnesium before bed and I sleep pretty good. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to add my experience... I am now six weeks post treatment. I experienced headaches and some fatigue while taking Harvoni (12 week course), but it was tolerable. Now, though, I have extreme fatigue, foggy brain, and joint pain. I feel worse than before treatment. I had mild disease for 35+ years. Acquired in the military. Hope this fatigue doesn't last long.
i am just over a year post treatment. i feel better than i have for 20 years. very thankful for the treatment. prior to treatment it was difficult i was always weak and tired. now im playing catch up with my retirement account. because now i know i will need it. hang in there it gets better.
I finished 24 weeks of Harvoni in December of 2016. I am just now getting over after effects. Have heard from others that it can take a year or longer as well.
My wife took harvoni for 90 days complained about being doged out for about a month .6 months later she is hard to keep up with. I cant believe the diferance .I ve been told the liver can completly regenerate in that time . A wonder drug really.
For some people there are no long term side effects. But for people like myself they have still not left completely. I finished a 12 week treatment with Harvoni in July... hang in there and I do hope you get to feeling better. Do as much detoxing as you can to clean out your system of the toxins of the drugs.
I finished 19 of 24wk tx in June 2016. I also have extreme fatigue weight gain & highly emotional. Low platelets & WBC. I do have more cognitive function than before but still don't drive
We all must find our New Normal.
I have improved to more good days than bad but must avoid stress and negativity. No longer on anti depressants or sleep aids.
Rest when you need it and just Let Go of any bs
Cirrhosis & anemia now stable and there light at end of tunnel.
I cleared one year ago last May. I finally got my energy back at about 3 months, but it takes awhile to totally recoup. I had the same reported. Headaches and extreme. Fatigue with loss of appetite, which has yet to return with vigor, but am thankful for the Harvoni. I had a very high viral load, and mine was also found accidentally. Am wondering: has anyone reported memory issues? That and the fatigue which has returned (which could be due to small job) seem to be an issue for me, and right now, am attributing to age. Just wondering. I would take this again. Husband has it also, but refusing treatment.
I am right at 12 weeks post treatment. The only thing that I am still experiencing symptom wise is joint pain that is almost unbearable. I have heard it takes anywhere from a week to several weeks for harvoni to completely get out of your system.
Good luck and may we both be cured from enduring this drug and it's many side effects. You should be feeling a little better each day.
Luna, Did you take Ribavirin with Harvoni?
I was just recently diagnosed with Hep C. My husband passed away in 2000 from Hep C. I am really depressed and scared. I should be starting treatment in the next 2 weeks. I am grateful that there are new medications to treat this disease. I am fatigued, nauseous, have joint pain, insomnia and suffer from depression. I am afraid that my symptoms will be worse once I start treatment. Can you offer any advice as to the best time of the day to take the medication as well as any additional information you have on Harvoni? Thanks!
I am 10 months past treatment and feel awful, great fatigue, muscle aches, joint aches and terrible sleep patterns and have gained weight due to the inability to get back on a consistent work out track I am cured but had a very low viral load, no symptoms and it was discovered by accident. I have always had a very low tolerance to any medication and take very few. I feel as though this medication took 10 years off of my life and I would not take it given a choice as I was told almost zero side effects. While on the medication I missed great amounts of work primarily due to joint pain and fatigue. I also have heart palpitations and shortness of breath during the medication and still 10 months later. I was extremely athletic prior to taking this medication. I would give serious thought before taking Harvoni and unless your viral load is extremely high , be very sure before you do. Good luck to all that make the decision to proceed.
I am 12 weeks post Harvoni treatment and have severe pain in my joints and low back like never before. It came on during treatment and is not going away.
anyone else having joint pain from this medication?
Luna
I am sorry to hear that you are in pain. Stories like yours are what is making me hesitate taking Harvoni. May I ask if you had any joint problems prior to taking Harvoni? Were you in good health other than the HCV? Did you take Ribavirin with the Harvoni? How old are you?
You might try taking anti inflammation supplements like a good quality fish oil and turneric. It should help. It may take 4 weeks or so to start feeling better though.
Thank you for your answers.
yes i am and the headaches wont go away sometimes it hurts to touch my self anywhere my eyes stay black and blue. stll throwing up been off 5 weeks. some days i just cant get up from the pain and my mood swings like a tornado sped thru it feels like my whole body has been beat to daeth and no relief unless i go to the er if i am lucky to get a dr that cares
3 more days on harvoni, this has been a good adventure no side affects. Worked the 8 weeks had energy to walk and any things else I needed to do.Drink a lot of water and tried to watch my diet. Took harvoni in the afternoon about 6 o'clock everyday.Go do my blood work in about a week Good luck on all the people just starting the treatment.
Finished my 12 week treatment May 19/2016. By the end of July I can honestly say I felt 100%. I am no expert, but I guess depending how sick you were with Hep C [ I was feeling no symptoms when I started treatment, had done the Interferon/Riboviron treatment twice however] you can expect it to take awhile to bounce back to normal. I will say I feel better now than I did prior to taking Harvoni. A month ago I was questioning whether I had made the right choice taking Harvoni.
