I'm losing hair on the top of my head and the only thing I can attribute it to is a change in my blood pressure meds. Last fall my doctor changed me from Diovan HCT to Losartan 100mg. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?
Has anyone experienced hair loss when taking Losartan?

I am happy to report that my hair appears to be coming back in. I don't know if it will return to the pre-Losartan state but there are some 'nubs' appearing. I am thinking it's been 3 months since I stopped taking the medication.
Susan, and others who switched bp meds. Which BP med did you switch over to? I am fearful that they all might cause hair loss. Sure hope not.
Great news about the hair coming back!!! Mine seems to be falling out less and less... but not sure yet if it's actually coming back. But I have hope now with your reports!! Thank you all!
are you taking something elso now? for BP
I want to let people know that this drug causes substantial hair loss. I was on this drug for 3 months and lost most of the hair from the top of my head. I am a female and had thick hair. About 2 weeks after stopping this drug, some hair started to grow back, but it is going to take a very long time before I will be able to go without a wig. Very sad!
I always wondered wether Losartan was the reason my hair started coming out, now I know for sure after reading others comments. I been taking Losartan 100/25 for years. Now I have half a head of hair. I plan to speak to my Doctor about it asap to see if she could switch me to something else. I have a friend who take lisinopril and it keeps her face and feet swollen. I don't want that side effect at all or the loss of hair. So we will see what the Doctor says. With the hair loss, I've gotten use to wearing some really nice wigs but I don't want that, I want my hair back. Anyone who has stopped taking Losartan, did your hair ever grow back to it's normal? I will let all know what my Doctor says about switching my BP med.
I had been taking Losartan 50mg 1x a day for a few years and then my doctor raised the dosage to 2x a day (100mg). Had no issues of hair loss until I started taking the higher dose.
Yes, I am experiencing hair loss at the top of my head. I have been on 100mg Losartan for about 2 months and the hair loss has become significant. I normally have thick hair. I am talking to my doctor soon.
Yes omg I am experiencing a lot of hair shedding, never before when I was other BP meds. This is alarming. I am going to stop and get other meds! New to taking losartan bout 7 months!
I am a woman who has experienced severe hair loss in the back, crown and sides of my head, leaving me with no alternative but to cut all that's remaining. I have taken other HBP meds over the last 10 years with changes now and then. I was prescribed Losartan in late May 2017 and then the breakage began. I guess I'm in the 1%.
Renee, I do not believe it is just 1% !! It is not reported. I know too many people who have lost hair on Losartan to believe that. I did not report my hair loss. Did anyone here? I don't know where to report it. I am so upset by this!
I am so glad you asked this question. I have been taking Losartan Potassium 50mg for a little over a month. My hair has been coming out by the handfuls, I was at the end of my rope and soon to be bald trying to figure out what was going on. I will not take another one.
I just wonder if it will come back - so far, mine is not but I suppose it would take many months. I started women's minoxidil (sp?) about a month ago hoping to jump start it.
Yes. My dr has no answers for me.
I have been on Losartan for 2 months and my once very thick hair is almost gone! I am a female and devastated.
I started Losartan 50 mg at the end of April, 2017, and within two weeks, my hair started coming out at a very fast pace. I am devastated as my hair is now completely see-through on the crown and extremely thin all over. I did not put two and two together until this week and have stopped the medication. I hope my hair comes back.
so glad I found this! My top and side balding is really starting to get to me. Very self-conscience about it. Appt. with dr this month and I'm going to ask to try something else.
I think I have,I have been on Losartan for a few months now and this morning after I washed my hair and was combing it out I got a glob of hair in my comb,I had been noticing more hairs falling out before this but this is the worst, just called my Doc.
My Doc said to stay on it til I see him in April?? It is50 mg daily and have only been on it for a few months but I think it is causing the hair loss,I am very sensitive to a lot of meds,I also take Cartis at night, think I will stop the Losartan for a week and see how my BP stays,if it stays down good bye Losartan.
It’s now late August, 2018! I’d like to add here that ever since I was told I had hypertension (about 2-2 1/2 years ago) and doctors prescribed HBP meds, after a few months of injesting the medication, I began experiencing significant hair loss and even the texture of my hair has changed (for the worse!). Amlodypine besylate was the first HBP I was prescribed & my feet and ankles swelled up profusely! As soon as I stopped it, the swelling subsided. I was also prescribed a couple other HBP meds that I had to stop using because of other bothersome side effects. I recall one of them severely constipated me! Finally, thru put me on Lisinopril. Ugh! THATS when my hair change really got noticeable! I began losing much more hair than ever and the texture of my hair was very different from what it always had been. I was angry & upset to say the least! I immediately quit taking the drug! But it has never truly subsided.
I’m now on Losartan for my HBP and the hair loss and texture change is getting bad again. While off of any HBP meds for a couple months, as I said, the hair loss never fully subsided but it definitely wasn’t as bad. I’ve also been reading online that even NSAID’s can cause extensive hair loss! But I’ve always consumed aspirin or ibuprofen over the years. It seems to me that my problems with my hair thinning, etc., began when I took my first HBP medication! I, like most of us here, had a beautiful, thick, lustrous, full of body, geadbif hair! Yes, I know I’m betting old (63), but I don’t believe hair loss and age go hand in hand! SomeTHING is causing it. A chemical, most likely! I firmly believe it’s these HBP meds! And, I think there may be something to this NSAID thing too! What to do? What to do? I, alone, do NOT have that answer. My goal for now is to get OFF HBP med through lifestyle change. More exercise. Better diet rich in plant based foods. My hope is that these changes will allow me to stop taking these chemicals. Perhaps then I’ll get a real handle on my hair loss issues! UGH! Sometimes I just want to scream! Lol. Good luck everyone. ♥️
I have been taking Losartan 100 mg for about 5 months. My hair has thinned out so much with in these last few months; I was wondering could this medication be the cause of my hair loss . After reading others comments; I am convinced that this drug is causing my hair loss. I will be calling my doctor tomorrow for an alternative!
Taking Losartan for a couple months. Seeing a significant increased hair loss. Unsure if direct correlation to the medication.
