Hi... I am BP also,(41 years old)
I take the following meds and have helped me very much... now it does not mean that it will have the same effect on you, for that you must contact your Psyachiatrist. Not all organisms react to meds and their side effects in the same way... we all are different, of course.
Lithium causes hair loss, gedeon ( serious side effect must be reported) causes large or rapid weight gain
This is my comdo today.
Lamictal (lamotirgine) 300mg in the morning-mood-stabilizing drug
Depakote (valproic acid) 250mg mood-stabilizing drug
Seroquel (quetiapine) 300mg.@ night-atypical antipsychotic second generation
Klonopin (clonazepam) benzodiazepine (very addicting) 8 mg. 3 times a day.
These meds I tried int he past some worked others did not, for some I experienced serious side effects... etc
And it means which as I said ,I will put it in other words, before you get on the right combo, your psyachatrist does not have the magical solution, this is why you have to try , until he/she finds the right meds for you or combo.
Zyprexa -olanzapine/an atypical antipsychotic
Chlorpromazine-phenothiazine/ antipsychotic
Prozac -fluoxetine / anti-depressant
Litium-lithium carbonate/ mood-stabilizing drug
Tegretol-carbamazepine/treat epilepsy
Lyrica-pregabalin/treat epilepsy among other conditions
Risperdal-risperidone / an atypical antipsychotic
Xanax-alprazolam / benzodiazepine are used for their sedative and anxiety-relieving effects.
Ativan-lorazepam / benzodiazepine are used for their sedative and anxiety-relieving effects.
Versed-midazolam/ sedative, anxiety, or anesthesia medication
I am sure I have taken many more for my mental condtions but my memory is not very good.
You must also know there are different BP disorders
1. Bipolar I Disorder is mainly defined by manic or mixed episodes that last at least seven days, or by manic symptoms that are so severe that the person needs immediate hospital care. Usually, the person also has depressive episodes, typically lasting at least two weeks. The symptoms of mania or depression must be a major change from the person's normal behavior.
2. Bipolar II Disorder is defined by a pattern of depressive episodes shifting back and forth with hypomanic episodes, but no full-blown manic or mixed episodes.
3. Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (BP-NOS) is diagnosed when a person has symptoms of the illness that do not meet diagnostic criteria for either bipolar I or II. The symptoms may not last long enough, or the person may have too few symptoms, to be diagnosed with bipolar I or II. However, the symptoms are clearly out of the person's normal range of behavior.
4. Cyclothymic Disorder, or Cyclothymia, is a mild form of bipolar disorder. People who have cyclothymia have episodes of hypomania that shift back and forth with mild depression for at least two years. However, the symptoms do not meet the diagnostic requirements for any other type of bipolar disorder.

You keep on fighting... and never , ever give up.
Thank you
hey my friend. i just got a couple things to say. you might reject this comment or not but i feel i must tell you. all those meds you are taking are very very dangours. i used to be on many meds also, but i started to relize i was 10 times more miserable on them then off. now i am sober from all those brain killing drugs and i have my life back. im more happy then i could ever be. it was those meds that the docs gave me that kept me sad and was slowly taking away who i was and also being that sedated everyday takes away your free will to think and be creative, plus lost of those drugs steralize people and turns them in to passive non-thinkers like i was. i know 4 people in my life that have died do to some of the meds you listed which is why i stopped, and started figuring things out. so basically my point is we live in a scientific dictatorship that wants to turn us into zombies that have no emotions and to not feel or think about anything. its very sad to me.
if you take my advice and stop taking all medications i promise you will have your life back. it is very hard to believe the docs and psycs would diagnose people with all these symptoms and give people all these reasons and addicting pills on why you should take them but dont forget they are getting paid millions of dollors to sell these products and they know people will keep coming back for them cause either ones not working so they give you somthing else or they trap you in the addiction of it. its very scary to me what is happening but i wish you the best of luck. Take Care
