It's possible alcohol withdraws last any wear from 24hrs up to a few weeks
I went to impatient and out patient rehab for alcohol while in the Navy I was twitching and shaking and trembling for 48hrs they had to put me in the ER and kept me for 72hrs for fear off heartattacks etc. Alcohol effects your nervous system so I'm sure your not retarded !
iworktoo:
my Dad had six brothers who were all heavily involved into alcohol, he was the one that was afraid of it and stayed away from alcohol, My mother had 7 brothers, five oof them were heavily into alcohol, I witnessed when I was younger what a horrible time they had, my mother had one who stopped and got the help he needed but it was too late, He had tuberculosis, and liver failure, all my Fathers brothers who were involved died at an early age it was either because of problems directly a result from the alcohol or from just drinking themselves to an end, It is my sincere hope that you will get the help you need whether it's through AA or another avenue you I just don't see as retarded, beneath it all you have a problem that you need help and the strength to overcome! I hope you know we crae and along with many others are willing to support you in any way that we possibly can
Hi iworktoo,
This could be potentially dangerous, you really need to seek medical attention.
Stopping alcohol can (yet does not necessarily cause) induce seizures, and the shaking may just be a simple reaction to alcohol cessation, or it could be the precursor to a seizure.
Best wishes and please seek medical help as soon as you are able,
Hey iworktoo,
You are not retarded, lol. Stopping alcohol after being a heavy drinker can cause this symptom. To read more about alcohol withdrawal symptoms, please go to:

On this page are also a few links to support for folks trying to stop alcohol such as yourself. Getting the proper medical and psychological care when stopping drinking is important. If you are having withdrawal symptoms that are moderate to severe (see the categories on the link above), I encourage you to seek medical help. If you want to sucessfully stop drinking and not relapse, please seek the support of other recovering alcoholics.
I am here for you if you need someone to talk to further,
Laurie
