My friend is too scared to ask her doctor or her family this question and she talks to me a lot about it so I have been surfing the internet to try finding an answer. Sometimes she abuses Adderall. She's wondering how long it would stay in her breast milk? When she does take "speed" she doesn't nurse for 24 hours. If she takes it at 9am,she wont nurse again until 9 am the next day. She does pump and dump and continue to to pump every 3 hours to continue her milk supply. She has frozen milk so she uses this while shes not nursing. I have found out online that the peak of Adderall is 2 hours after you take it. Does anyone know how long exactly it stays in breast milk and is 24 hours a good amount of time to give it to pass through?

I have heard it stays in your system for 2 days but it doesn’t effect the baby . But again this is the web and there is 100 different answers
I know this is an old post but I have to say something for the people reading over this. You guys that responded to her question, please just SHUT UP! If you are UNINFORMED AND UNEDUCATED about the questions subject then keep your PERSONAL OPINIONS to yourself! Now, young lady, when taking adderal, the half life is 10 to 13 hours, that means that's when at least half of the drug had left the body. There will be less than 1 percent of the medication left in the body after 3 and half days. 24 hours is plenty of time to breastfeed and be okay after taking adderal. Only .04% of the drug actually passed into the breast milk in the first place. So yes, I would say after 10-13 hours your friend should be good to provide her child with SAFE HEALTHY BREAST MILK and dont let people with a drugs are bad just say no attitude tell you otherwise because most of the time they are very UNEDUCTAED
I like how you spelled "uneducated" there at the end. Ironic, huh?
I'm so glad that was your take away in her comment Karl. Thank you for an answer to the question Lacesphone7. It's helpful as I am looking back into my meds now that I am no longer pregnant and wanted to know what the best course was.
She just needs to give up breastfeeding then and go to bottle feeding if the drug is more important to her. It is not fair to drug the kid. It is not like she cant feed her any other way.
You cannot breast feed while taking adderall. It may result in stunted growth of the baby. That's what the pedi told me in the hospital.
Its not measured other then to say it gets in the milk and you shouldn't use it when breastfeeding. She needs to decide what is more important, the child or the drug, then stop the drug.
I agree. She has always struggled with it and she's come a long way in the last few years. She use to be really bad but quit for the most part when she became pregnant. I just want to be able to tell her some sort of information for the times she does slip up. For the babies sake.
