I take .25 mg Xanax at night to sleep...if I don't take it, I don't sleep?

Although the CDC is not allowing doctors to give patients both Benzos and pain meds, they have been combined for YEARS! You are also on a very low dose of Xanax. I take Valium (another Benzo), although my doctor said he won't be able to write for it anymore come March and told me last month to start weaning myself right away to be prepared. I'm on the Fentanyl patch and Percocet, although on much lower doses than I was 2 years ago thanks to the CDC. I'm now suffering every day of my life like never before.

I had previously been put on Xanax and Valium twice over the past 20 years along with the patch, Percocet or Vicodin--whatever I was on at the time. Doctors told me both times that supposedly studies found that Benzos help pain meds work better, which I never found to be the case, so I stopped taking them because I also didn't feel I was dealing with stress or depression (although I am now, thanks to the drop in pain meds and the horrific, increased pain it's caused). I know many other people who have been taking Benzos and pain meds together for years with no problem. But we're now dealing with a CDC who used faulty data to create fear in an attempt to stem the "opioid epidemic" by targeting pain patients and the doctors who treat us because they can't stop the influx of illegal drugs coming into the country. The percentage of pain patients who have abused their meds has actually shown to be very low. So if your fear is due to faulty information you may have read, please let this ease your mind a bit. Since you're not on a high dose you should be fine. But to ease your mind, you may wish to take one of them and wait for 2 hours before taking the other. Good luck. But I'm sure you'll be fine.

In all honesty. The pain meds should help both with pain and sleep if, you don’t take them on a regular basis. I worked in the medical field and have been on both sides. I have a panic disorder and have a major fear going to the dentist for multiple reasons. I have taken benzodiazepines beforehand and taken pain meds as prescribed. If, you have told your dentist about all the meds you’re on it should not be and issue. I don’t want to tell you go ahead and take it you’ll be fine for the fact every person is different. The FDA warns against opioids and benzodiazepines together. Just know before, a major surgery many people are given Valium and pain meds together. The reason for the concern is the fact people have died between the abuse potential of both medications taken in excessive amounts as well as some people just have a bad reaction with low tolerance.
If, it were myself I wouldn’t take them together only difference is- I would take the pain med a few hours before your benzodiazepine... ideally, two to four hours apart is safe. The dose of Xanax that you’re on I don’t see a major concern plus it’s only at nighttime.
