I am male 62 yrs old weighing 64 kg.
I read articles sayoing max was 4000mg a day.
I aslo read a note not to take more than 10 days but I can not go to my
family physician yet I just had TURP 2 weeks ago and not taking any medication anymore like antibiotics and pain killers.
Can I take 2000mg of acetaminophen daily ( 4 x 500mg) beyond 10 days?

Yes, you can. This is quite safe for post-surgical pain as it is short term (it will subside with time). You can actually take more if you need up to the maximum daily dose of 4000mg daily.

4000 is the max!! But I would check with your doctor as soon as you can, and follow his or her's instructions.
Hi ramón, recently, they have changed the recommendations about taking acetaminophen from 4,000mg/day to 2,000mg/day max. They have found that acetaminophen does major damage to the liver. Therefore, even though you are within the maximum daily limits, I would really let the doctor know, as your liver needs to be checked frequently. One thing that a lot of people don't realize is that ibuprofen and naproxen sodium are just as dangerous for the liver, and also the heart. Please be careful, and let your doctor know.

Best wishes to you.

Really, this is a question best answered by either your primary care physician or perhaps, your surgeon. You shouldnt have to go in to see them, necessarily, for this question either. Just try calling the office (try your PCP first) and explain the situation. They can probably have you talk to the Drs medical assistant and they can ask the Dr if it is ok and let you know over the phone. Your Dr is the one who knows your background like how your kidneys and liver are functioning and that can help determine if the acetaminophen is safe for longer than 10 days and at what dose. Dont be shy about calling your Drs office for questions like this. It is often not necessary to make an office visit for simple questions like these that may come up between visits. It is worth a try. There are a few Drs who insist that you need a visit for every little thing but many physicians are quite okay with answering a question like this over the phone. Quite frankly, I wouldnt keep seeing a doc who made me come in for every little thing!
thank you very much
i just switched family doc and she wants to get blood works before entertaining
more questions i did not do bloodwork because to close to my sugery date.
I will try calling her tomorrow
Your response is very helpful
Some say 4,000 is the max, others say 2,000 to be safe. So based on either of those you should be ok, just beware of other things that have this in them as well. Hope this helps.
thank you very much
you think i can take 2000mg /day of acetaminophen beyond 10days
Hello ramon124. I would say no. However I am not a doctor. You might ask your doctor to confirm or get her/his opinion. Regards pledge
