My doctor prescribed it for hypertension, although I am barely in the hypertension category according to my blood pressure readings, which I take on a regular basis. With all that said, I am currently trying to take 12.5mg, instead of the 25mg prescription, and my blood pressure remains in the normal range. My reason for the lower dose is because I am concerned about the long term side effects on other parts of my system, esp. my kidneys. I read on some of the medical sites here that 12.5mg can be as effective as a 25mg dose, with lesser chance of bad effects on the body later on down the road. but more importantly, it can interact with some of my other medications, although mildly.
Is anyone here taking the low dose of 12.5mg? For hypertension?
What about 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide? for slight hypertension?

G; This is one of the oldest drugs on the market, I have never seen anyone hurt by this but you still look for side effects but if your taking only half of what the doctor has said there is no reason for that 12.5 or 25mg well not make any more damage to your system. It is used mostly to get the excess salt out of your system and any extra water you must be retaining some water don't fear this at all. But like anything else you always look for side effects but they are very rare.a couple things make sure you take this first thing in the morning the water is leaving your system in your urine so if you take it in the evening you might be up all night having to pee, Also with good weather coming on if your outside much its a good Idea to wear a sunscreen this can make you skin sunburn so use a sunscreen with at least a SPF OF 15 YOU sure don't need to get sunburned. This is the most common and very safe diuretic you can use. Please don't worry about it also if it is really blood pressure this would have another ingredient in it that would lower the blood pressure the doctor looks like he is using it more for water pill. you should have no worries with this medication but of course always watch for anything that is different.
