I am a newcomer to bp medication. My doctor just put me on 100mg of Losartan two days ago. My bp has consistently been around 140/98 for the past 8-10 months. However I am also goig through the most stressful time ever. I'm a 39-yr old female and am in average health. When reading the reviews I only saw a couple of people on 100 mg. This medicine was prescribed by my family doctor and not a heart specialist. Any feedback you could give would be appreciated.
Is 100mg of Losartan too high?

I’m on 100 mg and have been for a year and two months. Caffeine really kicks up my BP so I can only drink decaf. I didn’t know that before cuz I thought salt was the real culprit. Anyway I feel good but very tired. My PCP prescribed it too instead of a cardiologist but it was based on multiple readings at different times of day. I had felt occasionally nauseated and like I had the flu after mild workouts so I bought a blood pressure cuff to do my own readings. They have changed the range for normal BP so it’s lower now whereas 140 was acceptable and now they want it 120. That’s because “adverse events” happened to a lot of folks at 140. If you’re worried, you can see a cardio but usually they want to start you high and then lessen it. Probably your Dr is worried about your pressure spiking due to stress, which can happen. Better to be on 100 than have a stroke. I do break the pill in half cuz I would not be able to function if I took it all at once.
I take 100mg Losartan every day but I spread it out, if I took it all it once I would get side effects.
Maybe when you're thru you stress you won't need as much, but you can't have a high bp while you are under stress either. Generally they start with 50mg and work up from there. 100 is a high starting dose and your bp isn't skyrocketing. I would call him and ask if I can start out lower then the 100. The other thing is read the label carefully. Did he tell you to take half for a period of time? 100mg is not a high dose once you are on it, its just started lower usually. If you've taken 100mg for the past 2 days, can you take your bp?
