Directions For Use

BURSAL DISEASE VACCINE

LIVE VIRUS

For use in animals only

This product has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy chickens 10 days of age or older against infectious bursal disease. Duration of immunity has not been established for this product. For more information regarding efficacy and safety data, see productdata.aphis.usda.gov.

Administer in the drinking water.

In chicks with no detectable maternal antibodies, one vaccination at 10 days of age is recommended.

In chicks with maternal antibodies, 2 vaccinations are recommended, one at 10-14 days of age and the second at 2-3 weeks after the first vaccination.

Consult with a veterinarian before vaccinating chickens suspected of having been recently exposed to infectious bursal disease. The need for revaccination has not been established; consultation with a veterinarian is recommended.

Drinking water administration:

Remove the overseal and stopper from the vaccine vial and add clean non-sanitized water to it. Shake well and pour the vial contents into a container of non-sanitized water. Dilute the vaccine as outlined in the chart below. A dried skim milk powder should be used as a vaccine stabilizer at the rate of 8.0 g per gallon (2.1 g per liter) of drinking water. Add the skim milk powder to the water prior to reconstitution of the vaccine. Remove medication or sanitizers from the drinking water 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccination. Rinse waterers with clean non-sanitized water. Remove water from chicks at least 2 hours before vaccination. Provide adequate space so that at least 2/3 of the birds can drink at one time. Add vaccine mixture to the water as per the following chart:

Warnings

Vaccinate only healthy birds.

This vaccine is not effective when chickens are derived from strongly immune parent stock. Therefore, the immune status of the flock to be vaccinated should be determined prior to using this vaccine. Use this vaccine when parental antibody to infectious bursal disease virus (Gumboro disease) is at its minimum.

All susceptible chickens on any farm should be vaccinated at the same time. If this is not possible, individual lots may be vaccinated if strict isolation and caretakers are provided for the vaccinated and unvaccinated lots of chickens.

If there are susceptible laying chickens on the premises, there is a possibility that the virus might spread from the vaccinated to the susceptible chickens and affect egg production.

Use entire contents when a vial is first opened.

Inactivate unused contents before disposal.

Do not mix with other products, except as specified on the labeling.

Keep permanent vaccination records, including vaccine serial number.

Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.

Contains gentamicin as a preservative.

In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

Distribution in each State shall be limited to authorized recipients designated by proper State officials--under such additional conditions as these authorities may require.

Recommended use shall be restricted to premises having a history of the disease.
