Guanabenz Pregnancy Warnings

Guanabenz has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Some animal data have shown an increased incidence of fetal loss, neonatal mortality, and skeletal abnormalities after doses three to six times the maximum recommended human dose of 1 mg/kg were given. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Guanabenz should only be given during pregnancy when benefits outweighs risk.

There are no data on the excretion of guanabenz into human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, the manufacturer recommends that caution should be exercised when guanabenz is administered to a nursing woman.
