What is Surfaxin (Sufaxin)?
Surfaxin (Sufaxin) is a synthetic liquid, peptide-containing surfactant. Surfaxin (Sufaxin) is used to prevent respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants at high risk.The most common side effects associated with the use of Surfaxin (Sufaxin) are endotracheal tube reflux, pallor and endotracheal tube obstruction.
During Surfaxin (Sufaxin) use administration should be stopped if bradycardia, oxygen desaturation, endotracheal tube reflux, or airway obstruction occurs. The infant’s clinical condition should then be assessed and stabilized. Surfaxin (Sufaxin) is not indicated for use in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
