Depakote (Depacote) is an anticonvulsant. It works by reducing or preventing the number of seizures by controlling the abnormal activity of nerve impulses in the brain and central nervous system.

Depakote (Depacote) is used to control certain types of seizures and convulsions in the treatment of epilepsy. It is sometimes used together with other seizure medications. Depakote (Depacote) is also used to control the manic episodes, periods of abnormally high spirits and energy, that occur in bipolar disorder (manic depression).
