Benecar

Benecar is a common misspelling of Benicar (olmesartan).

What is Benicar (Benecar)?

Benicar (Benecar) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), alone or with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Benicar (Benecar) belongs to a groug of medicines called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Benicar (Benecar) works by inhibiting the action of a chemical transmitter (angiotensin II) which keeps blood vessels from narrowing and allows them to dilate (widen). Benicar (Benecar) also allows the kidneys to eliminate extra sodium and fluids. These actions combine to help lower blood pressure and improve blood flow.

Benicar (Benecar) may be prescribed alone or with other blood pressure medications, such as diuretics that help the body get rid of excess water. Benicar (Benecar) HCT is combination of Benicar (Benecar) plus hydrochlorothiazide, a common diuretic that increases the output of urine. This removes excess fluid from the body and helps lower blood pressure.
