Usual Adult Dose for SIADH

(Not approved by FDA)

Initial dose: 600 to 1200 mg/day orally in 3 or 4 divided doses
Maintenance dose: 600 to 900 mg/day orally or the lowest effective dosage to prevent hyponatremia

Usual Adult Dose for Bacterial Infection

150 mg orally 4 times a day or 300 mg orally twice a day

Usual Pediatric Dose for Bacterial Infection

Above 8 years of age: 7 to 13 mg/kg/day orally divided in 2 to 4 doses
Maximum dose: 600 mg/day

Renal Dose Adjustments

Caution and dose reduction or interval prolongation should be considered in patients with renal impairment.

Liver Dose Adjustments

Caution and dose reduction or interval prolongation should be considered in patients with hepatic impairment.

Dialysis

Demeclocycline is not significantly removed by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Caution and dose reduction or interval prolongation should be considered in patients with renal impairment.

Other Comments

Demeclocycline is approved by the FDA for the treatment of a variety of infections due to susceptible organisms; however, it is rarely, if ever, used clinically as an antibiotic.
