Clofibrate Dosage

Applies to the following strengths: 500 mg

Usual Adult Dose for Hyperlipidemia

500 mg orally 4 times a day.

Renal Dose Adjustments

CrCl < 10 mL/min: Not recommended.

CrCl 10 to 50 mL/min: 500 mg orally every 12 to 18 hours.

CrCl > 50 mL/min: 500 mg orally every 6 to 12 hours.

Liver Dose Adjustments

Clofibrate is considered contraindicated in patients with significant hepatic dysfunction.

Precautions

It is contraindicated in patients with clinically significant hepatic dysfunction.

Dialysis

Clofibrate has been shown to have an average elimination half-life of 133 hours in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Other Comments

Some patients may respond to lower doses.
