Aspirin / Codeine Dosage

Applies to the following strengths: 325 mg-60 mg; 325 mg-30 mg; 325 mg-15 mg

Usual Adult Dose for Pain

Aspirin 325 mg - codeine 30 mg: 1 or 2 tablets orally every 4 hours as needed.
Aspirin 325 mg - codeine 60 mg: 1 tablet orally every 4 hours as needed.

Renal Dose Adjustments

Caution is recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.

Liver Dose Adjustments

Contraindicated in patients with severe liver damage.

Precautions

Contraindicated in patients with severe bleeding, coagulation or primary hemostasis disorders, nasal polyps associated with asthma, peptic ulcer, serious GI lesions, or on anticoagulant therapy.

Aspirin should be discontinued 5 days before surgery.

Concomitant use of other CNS depressants or alcohol should be avoided.

To avoid habituation, patients should be advised not to take aspirin-codeine in higher doses, more frequently, or for longer than prescribed.

Safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients (less than 18 years of age).

Each dose should be taken with food or a full glass (8 oz) of milk or water to avoid gastrointestinal irritation.
