What is it?

Iron products are preparations of iron taken either by mouth or given by injection, to correct iron deficiency in humans. Iron is an essential element. It is a component of hemoglobin (in the red blood cells) and many enzymes in the body. Iron is necessary for transfer of oxygen in the body. Iron deficiency leads to anemia, a reduction in oxygen carrying pigment hemoglobin in the blood. Iron products include ferrous fumarate, ferrous sulfate, ferrous gluconate, and others.
