Invanz (ertapenem) for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "My husband was admitted to hospital for sepsis the blood culture showed Klebsiella pneumoni. Then he was sent home with a pic line and the IV med IVANZ. His strength deteriorated and by the 5 th day he could not stand up and was hallucinating. I found this was a side effect of IVANZ and the drug was stopped but he hallucinated severely for a week and could not walk. His Doctor said he has had several patients that responded this way to this drug. This was a horrible experience closer monitoring of the side effects of this drug is needed!!!"

Invanz (ertapenem) for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "This drug Invanz saved me. Admitted with a fever of 103F, abdominal pain, unable to urinate. Started IV treatment with another drug. Culture came back positive for klebsiella (ESBL) and was put on Ivanz. I began three courses in hospital and finished at home. I had a fourth course pre-op and post-op."

For Intraabdominal Infection "I was put on ertapenem for an intestinal infection (Ileum infection due to Crohn’s). Infusion therapy sucks but I have not had any side effects from this drug except maybe some fatigue. Better for me than flagyl, which made me incredibly nauseated and unable to eat. While this drug is powerful, don’t be afraid. Everyone reacts differently to medication but I was told by my infectious disease doctor that this medication was about as well tolerated as amoxicillin. I have more issues with saline solution IV flushes than this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I currently have 2 strains of Klebsiella species from my urine. One strain is quite resistant. I was referred to an Infectious Disease Control Physician who ordered Ertapenem 1 g IV daily for 14 days that is given to me at The Hospital. The first day I became nauseated so I was prescribed Zofran. The Zofran dissolved on my tongue and this stopped me from throwing up. So if anyone has to go through this IV treatment please, please make sure that your Physician can order Zofran while you're being treated. I also wanted to let you all know that Ertapenem has not given me any other side effects other than the usual loose bowels but nothing uncontrollable. I take a Probiotic tablet each day and this has also helped me. I read where some people suffer a few bad side effects from Ertapenem and I wanted to use this time and let many of you know to NOT fear the injections. I would rather have a side effect than let an infection go SEPTIC. I only have 3 more days and we'll see how I am doing."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This antibiotic worked really well for my UTI. The UTI was making me feel very ill. I had iv infusions and they worked like magic. I didn’t have any side effects except diarrhea. I was on treatment for seven days. I would advise you to eat a meal before infusions."

Invanz (ertapenem) for Urinary Tract Infection "My dad was placed on this medication and did NOT do well. The side effects changed his mental status and affected his gross motor ability to the point that he was unable eat and drink by self"
