Serious side effects of Nupercainal
Along with its needed effects, dibucaine topical (the active ingredient contained in Nupercainal) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking dibucaine topical:

- Chest pain
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- tightness in the chest
- unusual warmth or flushing of skin
Other side effects of Nupercainal
Some side effects of dibucaine topical may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.

General
General side effects have included methemoglobinemia, irregular heartbeats, seizures, coma, respiratory depression, and death. Children may be at an increased risk for adverse effects, as well as those who apply large amounts of anesthetics (or cover large areas of skin), leave these products on for prolonged periods, or cover with occlusive dressings after application.[Ref]
