Serious side effects
Along with its needed effects, antivenin (micrurus fulvius) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking antivenin (micrurus fulvius):
More common
- Difficulty in breathing or swallowing
- hives
- itching, especially of feet or hands
- reddening of skin, especially around ears
- swelling of eyes, face, or inside nose
- unusual tiredness or weakness
For up to 24 days after you have received North American coral snake antivenin, you may develop symptoms of a side effect called serum sickness. The severity of the symptoms and the length of the sickness depend on the amount of North American coral snake antivenin you were given and how long the treatment lasted. During this period of time check with your doctor if you notice any of the following side effects:

The most common adverse events were anaphylaxis, serum sickness, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Hypersensitivity
Frequency not reported: Anaphylaxis, serum sickness[Ref]
Gastrointestinal
Frequency not reported: Vomiting, abdominal pain
Dermatologic
Very common (10% or more): Hives/rash/welts (12%)
Common (1% to 10%): Itching, angioedema
Cardiovascular
Common (1% to 10%): Hypotension
Respiratory
Common (1% to 10%): Shortness of breath
