Sulfur hexafluoride Pregnancy Warnings

This drug should be used only if clearly needed.

US FDA pregnancy category: B

Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of fetal harm at doses up to 17 times the human dose based on body surface area. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.

US FDA pregnancy category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.

Comments: The effects in the nursing infant are unknown.

Use of this drug is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding since drug absorption by the infant is unlikely. Pumping and discarding breast milk one time after receiving this drug is suggested based on the drug's rapid clearance.
