No animal studies have been conducted. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. This drug is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, so no fetal effect is expected. Radioactive cesium and thallium cross the human placenta; the toxicity from these agents is greater than the potential reproductive toxicity of Prussian blue.
US FDA pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks
