Netilmicin Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Warnings

Brand names: Netromycin

Netilmicin Pregnancy Warnings

Netilmicin has been assigned to pregnancy category D. Animal studies failed to reveal evidence of fetal harm, ototoxicity, or impaired fertility after doses approximately 13 to 15 times the highest adult human dose. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy, but case reports of fetal harm in human pregnancy have been reported. Aminoglycosides cross the placenta, and there have been several reports of total irreversible bilateral congenital deafness in children whose mothers received an aminoglycoside during pregnancy. Netilmicin should only be given during pregnancy when there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk.

Netilmicin Breastfeeding Warnings

Netilmicin is excreted into human milk in small amounts. Due to poor oral bioavailability, systemic toxicity in the nursing infant is unlikely.
