Esterified estrogens / methyltestosterone Pregnancy Warnings

Use is contraindicated

US FDA pregnancy category: Category X

Comments:
-There is no indication for use in pregnancy; if a patient becomes pregnant while taking this drug, she should be apprised of the potential risks to the fetus.

There appears to be little or no increased risk of birth defects in children born to women who have combination oral contraceptives (estrogens and progestins) inadvertently during early pregnancy. Methyltestosterone should not be used during pregnancy because of the possibility of masculinization of the female fetus. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.

US FDA pregnancy category X: Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities and/or there is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience, and the risks involved in use of the drug in pregnant women clearly outweigh potential benefits.
