Propionibacterium Acnes Immunostimulant

EqStim^® is a preparation consisting of 0.4 mg/mL non-viable Propionibacterium acnes suspended in 12.5% ethanol in saline.

This product has been shown to be effective for the treatment of horses as an adjunct therapy against equine respiratory disease.

This product was licensed prior to the requirement to establish a minimum age for use. For more information regarding efficacy and safety data, see productdata.aphis.usda.gov.

DOSAGE: FOALS: 1 mL; OLDER HORSES: 1 mL per 250 lbs body weight. Repeat dosage at day 3 (or day 4), at day 7, and weekly as needed.

ADMINISTRATION: EQSTIM MUST BE ADMINISTERED BY THE INTRAVENOUS (IV) ROUTE. SHAKE WELL TO OBTAIN UNIFORM SUSPENSION.

CAUTIONS: In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

Do not mix with other products.

Do not use in conjunction with glucocorticoids or other immune suppressors. Steroid therapy should be withdrawn at least seven days before initiating immunostimulant therapy.

The effects of this product have not been studied in pregnant animals.Do not use when pregnancy is known or suspected or a cardiac condition exists. There may be a rise in temperature, tremors, temporary loss of appetite, or sluggishness a few hours after injection.

Store at 2°-25°C (35°-77°F) until first used, then store at 2°-8°C (35°-46°F) until expiry. Do not freeze.

Anaphylactoid reactions may occur.

Antidote: Epinephrine.
